College Cafeteria...dirty silverware...will I get sick?
Hello, I am a College student, and I primarily eat in a College cafeteria. Tonight when I was eating, after I took a bite or two with my spoon, I happened to feel a bump on the spoon that I knew wasn't supposed to be there...because I was eating ice cream. I turned it over, and there was a little bit of crusty food (at least I think it was food....it was a soup spoon). It completely grossed me out. I got to thinking about it...can you get sick from something like that happening? I am sure the spoon got cleaned, but apparently not everything came off. I am only asking because this week is finals week, and i really don't want to get sick. Also, there are a lot of sick students right now eating in the Cafeteria, so I just got to thinking.
The crud had been thru the institutional dishwasher so it's germ-free.
More important to avoiding winter illnesses is to wash your hands a lot. The doorknob in your classroom is more contagious than anything in the cafeteria. Wash your hands before & after meals, insist that your friends do the same, and be smart about caressing the tabletops & ice-cream chests that others have been touching.
