Where to ask for antique price on Martin Luther Picture?
I just got a Martin Luther Die Reformation Picture in my possession, there is a big portrait of Martin Luther and around that picture there are 8 other pictures with German writing on them. It is from the Art Publishing Co. in New York, but looks like a Late 1800s-Early 1900s Picture. It has a wooded frame around it as well. Does anyone know where would the best place to get it appraised at would be?
I am in the UK and I notice that your question originates from the USA so I can only advise you what I would do here in the UK. I would check the Yellow Pages Directory for Art Dealers & Auctioneers in my area, or better still check on the internet. Once I had found someone then I would ring them up first and explain about the picture to see what they say, if they want to see the picture then I would take it along for them to see. I would rather ring them or email them instead of carrying the picture everywhere.
Edit - I would also check on the internet for other work by the same artist to see what prices they are selling for, it also gives you an idea of how much money you may or may not receive.
